Neopolitan Lighthouse
2147 W Washington Blvd. 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60612

Description of internship (duties, hours, population served): *
The population that Neopolitan serves through the organization's domestic violence shelter program is strictly survivors of domestic violence and their accompanying children. The shelter location operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and interns are encouraged to curate a schedule that will work best for them. Within the On-Site Domestic Violence Shelter Program, under staff supervision, interns assist staff by providing telephone counseling and crisis intervention, completing telephone and in-person intakes, and providing individual and group counseling, family counseling, domestic violence education, safety planning, legal IDVA advocacy, VCVA orientation, information and referrals, children’s services, and assistance with day-to-day operations at the shelter facility. Interns also perform several administrative tasks for the agency, such as filing paperwork, completing donation inventories, organizing supplies, and more.

Prerequisites required for intern:
All volunteers and interns that provide direct services to the clients in Neopolitan Lighthouse's program must be 40-hour domestic violence trained. Neopolitan provides this training to all staff members and volunteers that work with the agency.
